After you figure out what genre is calling you, how do you learn the skills you need to be successful? There are so many resources. It can be overwhelming! There are countless blogs, websites, and Facebook groups. Which ones should you focus on? Often, this is where a new writer loses momentum. It’s difficult to know where to start.

The best thing to do is to begin at the beginning. Now that you have an idea of the genre you want to focus on, let’s narrow down the resources. If you are writing a book for preschoolers about the first day of school, you don’t need to study the techniques for writing nonfiction or middle grade novels. Your focus can be on sites, webinars, and conferences that focus on picture books. What is the easiest way for you to learn? Do you prefer to read a book, take a class or freestyle on your own? There is something out there for everyone and it can be found in a format that is comfortable for you!

We will explore some of the possibilities together.
